LM3914 Voltage Monitor Stripboard Veroboard Layout


This is pretty much a datasheet circuit that I put onto stripboard
it has a monitor LED that turns off when it drops below 8 volts however by changing the placement of the resistor you can make the LED go out at any voltage for example if moved the resistor leg from pin 12 on the IC to pin 14 on the IC the LED would turn off when it drops below 5volts

  1. Silly question: How do you get the LEDs nicely side my side?
    The smallest LEDs I have are 3mm in diameter and the strip board is 2.54mm spacing.

    1. you can get premade bars of LEDs for this sort of thing but I tend to just spend ages bending them till they're straight

  2. Hi Paul.

    I was wondering if you have a vero schematic, as well as the diagram, for a 555 timer speaker circuit combined with the above battery tester, so that every time a led indicates voltage levels, a simultaneous beep from the speaker goes off. I've tried and can't seem to get my head round it. I would be extremely grateful for your assistance. This would probably be a walk in the park for you lol, but would help me a lot.

    1. the way I would do it is to tap off each LED using a signal diode into a 555 one-shot circuit into a little beeper from eBay.
      I will give it a go if I get some free time
