Welcome. I wanted to provide stripboard layouts I've made to help people new to electronics and even the more experienced get into different aspects of electronics.

I verify the layouts before I post them.

Devils Drone Sequencer Veroboard Stripboard Layout

This has taken some time to design and it's not perfect but it sounds pretty cool (As you can hear from the sample) it follows on from the devils triangle I did earlier this year ( Found HERE and no you don't have to build that to make this work!)
This is quite a big project and as you can hear I have built it using the stripboard layout provided (as I do with all my layouts) so take your time because I really can't spend lots of time answering why things don't work. The truth is that unless you have the board in front of you there is no possible way to troubleshoot things. But if you take it slowly it should be good.
also don't forget to check out the "tips and troubleshooting" page above

I would also recommend not to do this if you're in-experienced

  1. What type of switch is that in the schematic?

    1. it's just 4 toggle switches - the CAD program I drew the schematic in didn't have a toggle switch component

  2. DOH !!! I thought so. Thanks. By the way, I made your Devil's Triangle. Excellent Stuff!!! Your designs are a pleasure to build - they always work.

    1. yes - if you right click on the image and click the "view image" option you will be able to zoom in and see it better

built this awhile back and love it, however im getting an audible click/tick as 4066 cycles, any suggestions on how to remove this?

  5. Hi Paul,
I've built this project and it sounds awesome! I've instead used SPDT on-off-on switches to allow also
continuos drone on each oscillator, bypassing the 4066 and disabling the 555 timer.
Now I can choose between a 4 step sequencer or a 4 osc drone!

I've only two minor issues that I can't find in your soundcloud sample, maybe you can help me:
    - I have a click on output at every 555 clock signal when all oscillators are in OFF position; If I remove all IC except the 555 (also the mixer op-amp) the click still remains. The headphone mono jack is connected to OUT and to 12 V , powered by an AC power adaptor. I'm using an STMicroelectronics NE 555.

    - as the user AbstractAnalog said, when 4017 cycles and open/close an 4066 output, I hear an audio glitch. I was using a Texas I. CD4066BE , then replaced with a Texas I. 74HCT4066 , same result. I hear the glitch also if enabled only one osc; analizing the soundwave I can see a spike at the beginning and at the end of the sound, when the 4006 close and open the switch.

When I'll put it in a nice box, I'll send you the pictures!

    Thanks.

    1. About the 555 click, I've also tried connecting the headphone with OUT and GND or V+ , same result ( indeed with GND I had also a background buzz ...).

    2. Also I had to pull-down the unused 4017 outputs, because otherwise it was acting weird, randomly stopping to cycle at clock input.

    3. bzz how did you do the mod for drone mode exactly ?

    4. i tried a large cap in parallel on the dc and it made mine a lot quieter , less tick ...

    5. Has anyone had any luck getting rid of the click? Loving this circuit but I haven't managed to eliminate the clicking...

  7. hi,

As the output is wired to V+, I suppose the output cannot be linked to a line input of a mixing table ? how can I adapt the output latest op amp ?

    Thanks again !

    Bro.

    1. well yes not the output itself put the + input of the latest op amp... So I though the output level was higher than a line output

    2. it's AC coupled - there's no DC on the output. you'll be able to wire it to a mixer no worries

    3. Great then ! My list of materials is ready... just have to order components. I suppose the 100uF condo at the output eliminates the DC component ?

      Your site Rocks !

  9. hi Paul!
where could i put independent volume pots for each one of the 4 "channels" in the schem?
and what would be the value?
i thought that i could put them before the switch, but i'm not sure
    any help would be great.
    thanks again man

  10. before the switch would be fine I imagine

  11. You might put a couple of pictures of the process, would help enough for many of us complicate to assemble, thanks

    1. people shouldn't be doing this project until they are comfortable with the process - that's why I said it at the top.
I definitely think people should do my easier projects before attempting this one.
