Mini Push Pull Amplifier Stripboard Veroboard Layout


This is a bit of an experimentalist amplifier - the transistors on the BoM won't give you that much amplification however if you put some power transistors in there like BDT63/BDT62 you will get a lot more amplification.

I made this for my iPods headphones and essentially what I did is make one board for each channel so I can stack them on top of each other and it is quite a compact nice little amp.

  1. I have been trying to build this without the op amp. I haven't gotten it to work. Is the op amp used as a preamp or part of the push pull device? Also, how would this look in a series?

    1. in a series? and yes the op-amp is essential to the circuit

    2. Also, could I use 2n2222 and 2907? And if I added another push pull, could I use a dual op amp like 4558 or tl072?

  2. I mean, could you put this in a series? I have given a lot of thought to your email, and I guess what I am asking is: when you said that it would be possible to put several push-pull amps in a series, would I take several of these and put them straight from one's out to the next one's input or would there be a buffer of some sort in between, or something else?

    Also, I finished a layout and subsequent build of a 2030 bridged amp. I won't be able to hook it up until I get a power cable to the transformer, however.

I think I said you could put several transistors in parallel to increase the power output you couldn't put one amp after the other because it will just distort and then blow it up. you should use bigger power transistors like the ones I mentioned up there - the little ones like 2N2222 will allow it to pass a buffered signal however it will barely power a speaker where as if you use bigger transistors - speakers get louder

    2. Because I salvage most of my parts, I only managed to get four 2n3771 high power Npn's.

I haven't built the amp yet, but I simulated it in a few different configurations and the best result so far was with a TL072, a pair of BC550/560 driving a pair of BD135/136 connected as Darlingtons, with +/-18v rails. In 16 ohms it puts out up to 11w clean at 1khz. Could be interesting with the other TL072 op-amp as a preamp.
