Onboard Guitar Preamp Drive Stripboard Veroboard Layout

This is a little preamp to go inside your guitar rather than as an external pedal which is why it has no controls - feel free to add your own of course!
in the sound sample I recorded the same thing a few times - 1st with the guitars volume at quarter way 2nd halfway and 3rd full way up.

last of all - this is the 88th stripboard layout which is a special number to me cause I'm a big back to the future fan !

  1. So this one will drive the front-end of a pre-amp harder/give it a bit of boost along with for example making it possible to plug straight into a line level input with a guitar with passive pickups for direct injection use or if plugged into high-impedance/HiZ instrument input then again it will allow hitting virtual pre-amps with some drive? Also not forgetting not so hot single coil pickups, It will generally give them some meat. Unless I have got this one all wrong (As you know that is an all too real prospect)

  2. What is the purpose of the two LED's?

    1. kind of like a voltage reference - like a zener diode.

    2. Thanks. My electronics knowledge is really poor, so I appreciate it. Since it was designed to fit inside a guitar cavity, I couldn't figure out why you would want two (or even one) pilot light. Now I understand.

    3. it's always better to ask if you don't know something!
I used LEDs because they are cheaper and people have a bit of trouble getting zener diodes sometimes.

  3. What if I decided to put zener diodes? What parameters of the diodes should be? Or can there be a specific suitable model?
